#What is G20 and why did the member countries feel the need for it?

 

The G20, also known as the Group of Twenty, is an international forum comprising 19 individual countries and the European Union. It was established in 1999 to promote international economic cooperation and address pressing global economic issues. The G20 brings together some of the world's major advanced and emerging economies to discuss and coordinate policies related to economic growth, financial stability, and development.

The need for the G20 arose from the recognition that the world's most significant economic challenges and opportunities could not be adequately addressed by the existing forums like the G7 (Group of Seven) or the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The G7, consisting of seven industrialized nations, was initially formed to discuss economic issues in 1975. However, as the global economy evolved, it became apparent that emerging economies also played a crucial role in the international economic landscape and should be involved in shaping global economic policies.

Therefore, the G20 was created to incorporate these emerging economies into the decision-making process.
